Venice and the Magic of the Carnival

Part I – Scenery and Portraiture

Masked model, Basilica della Salute, Venice

Join us in Venice, as we explore the romantic city during the days of the Carnival, a festival of colors, perfumes, and music that has no equal in the world.

Venice during the Carnival is not only people in costumes, but it is also the baroque churches and palaces, the museums, the narrow side streets and the small canals that tourists never go to, the colored houses of Burano. Thanks to our deep knowledge of the city, you will have the option to see and photograph all of this.

This workshop is all about the beauty of Venice, its churches, palaces and canals. We will explore the city together and show you its most iconic locations in the best light, together with some less well known, but equally stunning locations. This workshop will coincide with the start of the official celebrations of the Carnival, so you will have opportunities to photograph many people in costume, but they won’t be the exclusive focus of your daily activities.

We will shoot with a mixture of natural and artificial light, exploring the possibilities offered by continuous light and by flash and by shooting at the edge of day to create surreal atmospheres.

You will be part of a small group of students (max. 12 people), which ensures you will have plenty of attention from your instructors.

  • Dates: February 5-10, 2018
  • Duration: 6 days / 5 nights
  • Skill level: Beginner to intermediate.
  • Price: €3850 (incl. 22% VAT).

“Wanted to say again how much I enjoyed the workshop. You were most accommodating for me and very patient, I loved the restaurants you took us too, great food. The whole Carnevale was a blast, esp. the last day, never thought I would have so much fun.”

– Patsy Latscha, California, USA

  • Private shooting sessions with the best masked models of the Carnival.
  • Exclusive access to rooms and halls with exquisite furniture and decorations.
  • A gondola ride with masked models, where everyone gets plenty of time on the boat, not just a few minutes.
  • Photo tours of the most picturesque Venetian locations.
  • A trip to the multicoloured island of Burano.
  • Individual and group sessions of critique and post-processing.
